Dr. Fay Glosenger, a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, joined the Juniata faculty in 1982. Recognized throughout her professional career for her teaching, leadership and scholarship, Dr. Glosenger is the recipient of several awards, including the Outstanding PA Teacher of the Year Award, the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the Beachley Award for Distinguished Academic Service. She currently holds the Martin G. Brumbaugh Endowed Chair in Education and chairs the Education Department.
Dr. Glosenger's primary area of interest is early childhood education. She teaches courses in child development, children's literature, early education, and family relationships. Also, interested in international education, Dr. Glosenger studied in the British infant schools in Lincoln, England early in her career. As part of an International Teacher Education Project, she returned to England twice on faculty exchanges at the University of Ripon and York, St. John. She recently spent her sabbatical visiting study abroad sites in the Czech Republic and England. Also, as a visiting scholar in residence at St. Margaret?s School in Edinburgh, Scotland, she consulted with the early years staff and developed two new transatlantic projects with Patsy Curran, Deputy Principal at St. Margaret?s. She will begin taking students to study in Scotland summer 2007.
A strong advocate for young children and teachers, Dr. Glosenger is actively involved in teacher training, consultant work, and policy development. She is a member of the National Association for Young Children, the PA Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators, and the PA Leadership Network for PreK Counts.
In 2000, Dr. Glosenger received a $120,000 grant from the PA Department of Education to host the Governor's Institute for Early Childhood Educators at Juniata. Since that time, the grant has been renewed and the Institute has returned to Juniata each summer. Dr. Glosenger is the site director for the event.
Dr. Glosenger and her husband, Harry Stroup, reside in Huntingdon. Their daughter Keveney is attending law school at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island.
