Polly Smith joins the Juniata College faculty in 2006 as an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Sociology. She comes to the College from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey.

Polly earned a bachelor's degree of fine arts from New York University in 1976. She completed a Masters of Divinity at Union Theological Seminary in New York City in 1981. Polly's doctorate work in Criminal Justice took place at the City University of New York culminating in her doctorate degree in 1997.

Polly has various teaching experiences, all of which exemplify her support of the liberal arts in academia. Her teaching spans a wide variety of courses in criminal justice. Polly also has substantial publications in the field of criminal justice and has presented at conferences across the eastern United States.

In addition, Polly holds much administrative experience in government and non-profit agencies and, now, with justice and human rights groups.

Lastly, Polly has been awarded many grants, stipends, and assistantships along her academic path. She is a member of both the American Society of Criminology and the American Sociological Association.
