Welcome to Marlene Burkhardt's Web Page

My name is Marlene Burkhardt and I'm in the Information Technology Department here at Juniata College.

During my first campus visit I immediately became interested in becoming a part of the Juniata College learning environment. Unlike most other places, Juniata College seemed to encourage students to actively engage in their learning process by assuming responsibility for "real world" projects and outlining their own particular couse of study. I am excited about helping to guide and coach that process.

My teaching/coaching responsibilities for the Fall semester include:

• IT110 (Principles of Information Technology)
• (Innovations for Industry, aka I4I)
• EB 201 (The Management Process).

Each of these courses promotes active learning in the spirit of a Juniata College education!

Some of the experience I bring to these courses and the students of Juniata College include: start-up of a small management consulting company, Nittany Research, faculty member of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, instructor and information specialist with Penn State University, administrator at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and management analyst at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Washington, D.C.

Some of the courses I've taught include: Organization Behavior, Organizational Design and Development, Research Methods, Computer Applications in Business, and Management of Advanced Technology. I have also conducted research in the areas of work place technology and network analysis. My work has appeared in the Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, and other publications and conferences.

My educational experience includes: a Ph.D. from Penn State's Smeal College of Business Administration, an M.S.W. from the University of Maryland at Baltimore, and a B.A. Degree from Wilkes College.

On a more personal note, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Russell, and our two children (Russy and Sara). In my spare time I like to hike and read mystery novels.
