Watzlawick, Beavin, and Jackson: 1967
-
Communication is a give and take process
-
Neither person is considered just the sender or just the receiver...they
are simply referred to as interactants or communicators - the sender and
receiver role is constantly changing
-
focus on intention: one cannot not communicate
-
The focus moves from messages to meanings...in other words, Watzlawick,
Beavin and Jackson were not interested in the fidelity of the information
and its ability to get from point "A" to point "B," they were instead interested
in the manner in which both "A" and "B" interpreted and attributed meaning
to messages.
