  - ED 240(3) - Introduction to Students with Exceptionalities 

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the culture of exceptionalities and the special education system created to support individuals with exceptionalities and their families. Focus is placed on identification and intervention procedures, relevant legislation and litigation, professional and community resources, inclusion, and other current issues. Prerequisites: ED 120, ED 121 or ED 130.

 - ED 341(4) - Adaptations for Students with Exceptionalities

This course is designed for all teacher education candidates in preparation for inclusive classrooms. Focus is placed on making adaptations, accommodations, and modifications to meet the learning and social needs of students with special needs.  Students are introduced to the importance of transition planning, facilitating friendships, and adapting curricula. Emphasis is placed on collaboration and communication with parents and professionals.  This course includes a practicum with exceptional students in the public schools. Prerequisite: ED 240.

- ED 300(1) - Issues in Early Intervention 

The purpose of this course is to increase student knowledge about risk factors and vulnerabilities in the lives of young children, as well as protective factors related to resiliency. This course also focuses on the importance of how children explain or frame events in their lives, and how that affects the development of optimism and the prevention of depression. Discussion of the literature and its relevancy to teachers and caregivers of young children is a primary component of this course. Prerequisites: ED120 and ED121 or ED130 and ED240.

  - ED 342(3) - Assessment and Instruction

This course is designed to introduce students to the purposes, types, and uses of assessment for individuals with exceptionalities. Both formal and informal assessment tools are presented. Students learn about the critical linkage between assessment and instructional planning, the use of assessment data in eligibility, programming, and placement decisions, and considerations for ethical and effective assessment practices and interpretation procedures for instructional planning. Prerequisite: ED 341.

  - ED 440(3) - Methods for Students with High-Incidence Disabilities   

This course focuses on studies in classroom and instructional management for students with disabilities, specifically, learning disabilities, mild mental retardation, and emotional disturbances and behavior disorders. Prerequisite: ED 341
