Projects

I'm a paleontologist.

In a broad sense, I'm interested in how things that matter to individual organisms scale up to produce the patterns we see in the fossil record. Because I think the things that limit species in time are the same as the things that limit species in space, I've concentrated on geographic patterns of macroevolution, especially their relationship to climate. I've worked on within-community diversity through time, geographic patterns of brachiopod origination and extinction rates, why widespread taxa are geologically longer-lived than endemics, selective extinction during the Late Mississippian Period, et cetera. All invertebrates, so far.

et cetera

first, a proposal for a Student Research Journal that no one cares about, and

a mock-up of the aforementioned Student Research Journal:B&W

but I will keep hammering away because it's a good idea.

second, a ranking of Juniata College science faculty by H-index.
