A. Read Topic 20 in the textbook, and work the assigned
Exploration problems as listed for each day on the course web-site.
B. Activity 20.1
The specific questions for Activity 20.1 are on pg. 590 - 598 in your
textbook, where you can find directions for using Excel.
- For #1 (a) and (b), follow the directions and fill in a table of states
and their land area. Copy and paste this table into
your MS Word document.
- For #1 (c), compute the mean land area for your states and enter it into
your MS Word document. WRITE IT ON THE BOARD AS WELL or if not in class EMAIL IT TO Dr. Roth.
- For #1 (d), generate the 6 random integers, enter these into your MS Word
document, and briefly explain how you generated them.
- For #1 (e) and (f), explain how you numbered the states, and then use the
random integers generated in (d) to choose 6 states. Fill in the table with
the name of the states and their land areas, and
then copy and paste this table into your MS Word document.
- For #1 (g), compute the mean land area for your states and enter it into
your MS Word document. WRITE IT ON THE BOARD AS WELL or if not in class EMAIL IT TO Dr. Roth..
- For #1 (h), Enter the number of students/teams with subjective
sample means greater than the population mean of 70,748,
and enter the number of students/teams with subjective sample means
less than the population mean of 70,748.
- For #1 (i), Enter the number of students/teams with random sample

and enter the number of students/teams with random sample means less
