Dr. Roth's Math Bio

1. Name: Kimberly Roth, my friends call me "Kim." My students typically call me "Dr. Roth ."

2. Email id: roth@juniata.edu

3. POE: I was a math major and a computer science minor as an undergraduate at Oberlin College.

4. Expected Graduation Date:1996 B.A. - math- Oberlin College, Fall 1996-Spring 1997 Budapest Semesters in Mathematics, 2002 Ph.D. -math- The Pennsylvania State University

5. Why are you taking this class? I will answer the question, "Why am I teaching this class?" instead. I enjoy teaching math at all levels. When I teach, I like classes with lots of real life applications, like this class.

6. What are you hoping to get out of this class? I will answer the question, "What I hope you get out of this class?" instead. I hope you gain some practical math skills and discover (if you don't already know this) that you can do math.

7. Briefly describe your math background: I liked math all the way through elementary and high school and was good at thinking things out, but often made arithmetic errors. However, until about my sophomore year in high school, I wanted to be a high school English teacher. In undergraduate I discovered the joy of theoretical mathematics, all about thinking things out thoroughly. I studied abroad after I graduated and enjoyed studying math (taught in English) in Budapest. In graduate school my main mathematical focus was chaos and fractals.
