Dr. William Russey



A magna cum laude graduate with honors in chemistry from Kalamazoo College, Professor Russey studied as a Fulbright Fellow at the University of Bonn, Germany, before pursuing his master's and doctoral degrees at Harvard University. While at Harvard, he was honored with a teaching fellowship, an Honorary Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, and grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi.

He joined the faculty at Juniata in 1966 and has served as chairman of the chemistry department, director and co-director of international exchange programs, and member and officer of numerous faculty committees.

He is currently Juniata's Charles A. Dana Supported Professor of Chemistry and an editorial consultant and translator for VCH Publishers, Germany, now a division of John Wiley.

Professional awards and grants received since coming to Juniata include the 1975 Beachley Distinguished Professor Award; Cottrell College Science Grant, Research Corporation; Visiting National Science Foundation Fellowship and German Academic Exchange Service Fellowship at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research, Federal Republic of Germany; Senior Fulbright Awardee (lecturer and visiting professor), Fachhochshule Münster and Philips-Universität Marburg, Federal Republic of Germany.

Dr. Russey is a member of the American Chemical Society, Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker, Royal Society of Chemistry, International Union of Pure and Applied Chemisty, Middle Atlantic Association of Liberal Arts Chemistry Teachers, the International Horn Society, and the Fulbright and DAAD Alumni Associations.

In the community, Dr. Russey has been active as chairman, board of administration, Stone Church of the Brethren; district advancement chairman, Boy Scouts of America; Huntingdon Borough Planning Commission; Trustee, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital; and French horn player with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and the Nittany Valley Symphony.
