Read pp. 7-19 (sect. 15) and pp. 37 (sect. 46) through 70.

 

1. Who was the original author of the Life? Who translated it? What motives did they give for what they were doing?

 

2. Briefly describe Anthony, his personality and his lifestyle. How does the author portray him?

 

3. Anthony constantly sought to separate himself physically from other people. Why?

 

4. What advice did Anthony give the young monks who wanted to be like him?
