Sarah Worley, instructor in communication, was born in Des Moines,
Iowa but grew up in the Pittsburgh area where she graduated from
Burgettstown High School in 1996. Her father works in the Mental
Health field and her
mother is a Presbyterian Minister. Her interests and hobbies
include the outdoors, music, politics, and service.
Worley graduated from Juniata College in 2000 where she earned
a bachelor's degree in communication and philosophy. Worley started
her graduate studies at Penn State University. She earned a
master's degree
in public administration from the University of Colorado in 2003.
While
in Denver, Colorado, she worked as the Advantage program director and assistant
coach for SCORE! Educational Center. She worked
for
the organization in Baltimore, Maryland, from 2000 to 2001, and
in Denver from 2002 to 2004.
Before working for SCORE!, Worley was a member services and advertising
representative for the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce from
June 2003 to February 2004.
She returned
to Juniata in 2004 where she remains active as a volunteer
for the college. She
served as a judge for the Bailey Oratorical
Contest in 2002 and 2004 and served on a discussion panel during
Juniata's "Celebration
of Women" event in 2001. She also won the Bailey Oratorical Contest,
as a student, in 1999.
She is a member of the American Association of University Women
and Omicron Delta Kappa, the leadership honor society.
Worley has had a
variety of work experience in her career so far which has included professional
experience in sales management & member
services as well as business education. She is also planning to
begin a Ph.D. program doing research that takes a cultural studies
approach to looking
at communication and technology. Her research thus far has focused
on leadership, political rhetoric, and media ownership regulations.
